Beste is completing her dissertation work in mathematics education. Her research interests in undergraduate mathematics include the conceptual and historical development of concepts, students' understanding, teachers' interest in a professional development program, the role of proof in the mathematical verification process, and the debates between philosophies of mathematics and their effects on the mathematics curriculum. She is also interested in the relationship between mathematics education and social justice (equity, ability tracking, the characteristics of the students who seem to succeed in mathematics and the alternative approaches to mathematics itself as a body of knowledge).
